Research Area Sport Management
Due to the massive medialisation and commercialisation of elite and amateur sports, the sports industry with an annual turnover of nearly 100 billion US-Dollar has become one of the most important economy sectors. The term sports management functionally refers to the controlling of different actors such as athletes, clubs, associations, stadiums, marketers etc.
Because of rapidly changing economic and legal conditions it is necessary to analyse the different aspects of interactions of these actors intensively, in order to be able to derive goal oriented recommendations for action. The attractive pictures of major sport events that inspire numerous stadium spectators, public viewing spectators and television viewers are increasingly clouded by massive deception. Match-Fixing and doping offenses again and again lead to the fact that winner lists have to be rewritten so that the sport not only suffers a massive financial damage. Besides general topics in the area of sports management to control different actors such as athletes, clubs, associations, stadiums, marketers etc. future research projects should therefore more often focus on the motives that lead to defraud and the effective combat of this dark side of sport.
