Bacherlor Economics: FAQ

General

  • How do I plan my course of study?

Students are free to plan their course of study according to their own needs. Below you will find a recommended, exemplary study plan.

lease note: In order to receive a positive confirmation from the examination office in accordance with §48 BAföG, the first year of study must be fully completed by the end of the 4th semester. Further information on BAföG can be found here.

    • Students have the option to either choose a course from the general studies catalog or alternatively complete an internship. An internship is not a mandatory but a highly recommended part of the degree program. If students choose an internship, they are obliged to complete a work-related internship of approx. 150 hours (usually 4 weeks). An internship can be credited with ECTS if certain criteria are met.
    • As part of the degree program, a total of 8 elective modules must be taken, of which three elective modules must come from the field of economics. In addition to the three compulsory elective modules in economics, you also choose a compulsory elective module in business administration and can therefore also acquire in-depth knowledge in this area. A current overview for the respective semester can be found in the course catalog and here.
    • semester abroad is not an obligatory but very enriching part of the degree program. You can find more information here.
  • Is a compulsory internship planned during the course of study?

The examination regulations for the bachelor’s degree course in Economics at the University of Münster do not stipulate any compulsory internships. However, we strongly recommend that our students complete internships. The Examination Office issues letters of recommendation for this purpose.

  • Can I get credit for certain modules (e.g. Investment and Financing) from a previous commercial apprenticeship?

Non-university achievements, such as achievements from previous commercial training, cannot be credited. Study and examination achievements to be credited are regulated in §14 of the examination regulations. You can find more information from the Examination Office here.

  • At what time are exams offered?

Examinations are usually offered at two times in the bachelor’s degree program in Economics: "regularly" at the end of a semester and "early" in the middle (winter semester: before Christmas, summer semester: Whitsun vacations) of the following semester. Sometimes examinations are also offered in the "early" examination phase of the respective semester. This is particularly the case if a course is only read in the first half of the semester (in the first term). Both the regular and the early examination phase can be used in order to comply with the study plan.

  • How do I plan the next semester if I have failed an exam?

As a rule, failed examinations in the regular examination phase (winter semester: January/February, summer semester: July/August) can be repeated in the following early examination phase (see above). Examinations written directly in the early examination phase are usually repeated in the following semester. Please contact the Examinations Office for any exceptions. Both the regular and the early examination phase can be used to fulfill the study plan.

  • Is there a point in time at which a certain number of credit points must be completed?

The prerequisite for starting the third year of study is that the courses of the first year of study have all been successfully passed.
