‘WirtschaftsWoche’ research ranking: University of Münster and Prof. Bendig honoured
The Faculty of Business Administration and Economics at the University of Münster is one of the top performers in the current research ranking of ‘WirtschaftsWoche’. Several academics from our university were recognised for their excellent research achievements in the German-speaking world. Three researchers from Münster are among the economists with the strongest research, three are among the young stars of business administration and as many as five researchers were honoured for their life's work in the category of the same name.
Top rankings for Münster´s researchers
In the ranking of the ‘most research-intensive economists’ in the period from 2020 to 2024, three researchers from Münster are among the top 100:
• Prof. Dr. Jan vom Brocke (21st place)
• PD Dr. Daniel Westmattelmann (70th place)
• Prof. Dr. David Bendig (85th place)
Particularly noteworthy is Prof. Dr. David Bendig, who is also among the top 100 business economists under the age of 40 in the ‘Young stars of business administration’ category (21st place). Together with Prof. Dr. Tobias Brandt (17th place) and PD Dr. Daniel Westmattelmann (39th place), he represents the dynamic young researchers at the University of Münster.
In the ‘Lifetime achievement’ category, the long-standing research strength of our faculty is impressively demonstrated: five Münster academics were honoured here, including

Top performance of the University of Münster in a D-A-CH comparison
In addition to the individual awards, the University of Münster as an institution is also in the spotlight. In the overall comparison of the ‘strongest research universities in business studies’ for the German-speaking region (Germany, Austria, Switzerland), Münster occupies a top position in 19th place. This confirms the outstanding research culture of our university and the consistent linking of theory and practice.
About the ‘WirtschaftsWoche’ ranking
The research ranking is based on a survey conducted by ETH Zurich, which analyses the number of scientific publications in renowned journals. Publications from 860 journals over the last five years were analysed. In order to take into account the importance of the journals, the articles are weighted according to their reputation.
