Prof. Dr. David Bendig, Dr. David Eckardt and Dr. Colin Schulz from the University of Münster, together with Dr. Vincent Göttel from the University of Twente, have recently published their article "Human capital in corporate venture capital units and its relation to parent firms' innovative performance" in the Journal Research Policy (VHB JQ3: A, Financial Times 50): An excellent example of how the strategic partnership between the Institute for Entrepreneurship at the University of Münster and the Entrepreneurship and Technology Management (ETM) Section of the University of Twente is bearing fruit.
The article examines the impact of the professional experience of corporate venture capital (CVC) unit managers on the innovative performance of established companies that invest in start-ups in order to learn from them. In their article, the authors provide empirical evidence for the influence of different types of work experience based on extensive secondary data. In particular, they show that the heads of CVC units can increase both the innovation input in the form of patents and the commercialized innovation output in the form of product launches. The results provide companies with a tool for making well-founded recruitment decisions when looking for new heads of CVC units.
