Dr. Max Schülting presents the EcoAgri project at the Agricultural Research Day in Bonn.

On September 3, 2026, Dr. Max Schülting from the Institute for Entrepreneurship presented the externally funded EcoAgri project at the 3rd NRW Agricultural Research Day at the University of Bonn. Around 300 representatives from academia, business, agricultural practice, and politics discussed how agricultural research can contribute to food security and sustainable agriculture.

In his talk, “EcoAgri - Ecosystem Services as a New Line of Business and an Opportunity for Companies,” and during the poster session, Dr. Max Schülting explained the project’s approach. EcoAgri examines how ecosystem services provided by agriculture and forestry can be developed into an additional line of business and documented transparently for companies. A digital platform will connect farms and companies. Farms can add suitable areas and measures to the platform. Companies can select and fund regional projects and receive information on their ecological impact for sustainability reporting.

The project combines scientific analysis with application-oriented development and testing. Research findings and the requirements of different partners from practice continuously inform the development of the platform prototype. Discussions with experts from agricultural science, farming practice, business, nature conservation, and politics highlighted EcoAgri’s interdisciplinary approach and provided further input for the project. The project demonstrates how the Institute for Entrepreneurship works with partners from practice to translate scientific findings into concrete applications.

EcoAgri is funded by the State Office for Nature, Environment and Consumer Protection of North Rhine-Westphalia and co-funded by the European Union.
