New article published in the Journal of Industrial Ecology

Prof. Dr. David Bendig, Dr. Andreas Wagner and Kevin Lau from the Institute of Entrepreneurship have recently published their article "Does it pay to be science-based green? The impact of science-based emission-reduction targets on corporate financial performance" in the Journal of Industrial Ecology (VHB JQ3: A).

In times of worsening climate change, companies are also called upon to contribute to the decarbonization of our world. More and more so-called "science-based targets" are appearing on the scene. These are ambitious targets for reducing CO2 emissions that are in line with the requirements of the Paris Agreement. Many countries have joined forces in this agreement and formulated the goal of limiting global warming to below 2°C compared to the pre-industrial era. In their article, the authors provide empirical evidence for the "win-win hypothesis" of science-based targets (i.e., decarbonization) and improved corporate performance, based on extensive secondary data. They thus extend the discourse on the prominently debated question "When does it pay to be green?".

The authors would like to thank in particular the Dr. Werner Jackstädt Foundation for kindly supporting their work.
