Course content In this transdisciplinary course (Economics, Mechanical Engineering and Medicine), you receive the opportunity to work together with students from various disciplines by developing creative digital solutions to address challenges in healthcare. You and your team will develop digital solutions to support patients in the field of healthcare. This course will be delivered by the Institute of Entrepreneurship at WWU in cooperation with the Chair and Institute of Industrial Engineering and Ergonomics at RWTH Aachen University. It comprises interactive teaching modules focusing on entrepreneurship, user-centered app design as well as ethical oriented product development in the context of healthcare. Each transdisciplinary team will invent and develop a digital health app including an corresponding Business Plan. 
Competences

Health Care:

  • Getting to know the German health care system
  • Getting to know and understanding the challenges of caring for older people in the German health system

Engineering:

  • Application of the participatory and user-centred product development process
  • Application of modelling languages (Unified Modelling Language) in development processes
  • Learning about and implementing age-appropriate product and software design
  • Getting to know the guidelines for medical devices and their approval
  • Getting to know the AMICAI method for technology and idea evaluation with a view to ethical, legal and social aspects

Business studies:

  • Getting to know the Entrepreneurial Mindset and applying the Design Thinking Method
  • Getting to know and applying the Business Canvas method
  • Writing a business plan
  • Getting to know financing models for start-ups in the health sector

Softskills

  • Learn and implement self- and team organisation
  • Get to know and apply project management
  • Experience interdisciplinary cooperation (engineering, economics and medicine)
  • Improve presentation skills
Examination 80% group work (business plan and app prototype) + 20% presentation
Attendance Attendance is strongly recommended to enhance learning.
