Winner of the Teaching Award 2024

This module was honored with the Teaching Award 2024 as part of the Bachelor's degree program in Business Administration. This recognition comes from the Student Council of Business Administration and Economics (Fachschaft WiWiand is based on the vote of last year's course participants in the course evaluation.

 

Organizational Matters

The module is offered in the summer term as an elective module in the Bachelor's degree program in Business Administration. It will take place in the first half of the summer term. The final grade is based on a 60-minute written examination (75% of the final grade) and two case studies (25% of the final grade). To pass the module, both the exam and the case studies must be passed. Grades from the case studies are credited for the early examination period in the winter term, but not beyond that.

This year's lecture will be accompanied by practice-oriented guest lectures from top-management representatives of the following consulting and industrial companies.

 

Course Description

The module integrates theoretical foundations of restructuring and business transformation with practical insights from case studies and company representatives experienced in turnaround situations or business transformations. Students will apply theories and concepts through tutorials and mandatory case study submissions. Major elements of the lecture and tutorials are (1) crisis identification, (2) financial assessment and forecasting, (3) introduction into the legal context of insolvency and restructuring, (4) turnaround and transformation strategies including top line improvement, cost reduction, and working capital management as well as (5) key principles of change management.

Exam registration

From summer 2025, the module will only be offered to PO 2022 students. Therefore, PO 2018 students must change PO to take the module. The PO 2022 introduces tracks in business administration. Upon graduation, students will receive an additional certification explicitly mentioning their track, such as "Corporate Transformation", on their final documents. Information regarding PO change can be obtained here.

Exam registration is open during the first two weeks of the lecture period in the summer term (early registration period). The final exam is held during the early examination period, usually in the week after Whitsun and on Fridays and Saturdays prior.
