Main topics

Strategic management is characterized by a multitude of models and frameworks. The theoretical foundation and the interdependencies between the different models often get lost. This course provides a coherent theoretical framework that combines the most important theories of strategic management and answers how firms can achieve a sustainable competitive advantage. Through case studies and exercises students learn how firms select a suitable industry, how firms position within this industry, how firms develop and use core competencies, and how firms create efficient governance structures. The students also learn about the importance of leadership in implementing suitable actions in practice. Additionally, the course covers key aspects of international management, including strategic entry decisions in foreign markets and international strategies.
