Mobile working as the key to productivity and well-being
The world of work has changed dramatically in recent years and flexibility has gone from being an optional benefit to a necessity. Mobile working models offer employees the opportunity to organise their working environment flexibly, which can influence both their productivity and their well-being. But does more flexibility automatically lead to better results?
Our research team is dedicated to the detailed investigation of mobile working models and their impact on performance, communication, work-life balance and mental health. The focus is on the question of whether and in which situations more flexibility actually leads to positive changes or whether there are also challenges that these models bring with them.
In order to gain a comprehensive understanding of mobile working models, our research team is using a mixed-methods approach by collecting qualitative expert interviews and quantitative survey data.
1) Qualitative interviews: So far, over 30 interviews have been conducted with employees and managers from different industries. These interviews offer deep insights into the participants' personal and professional experiences with mobile working models and illustrate how they experience flexibility in their everyday working lives.
2) Quantitative surveys: The quantitative phase of data collection began in August 2024 and is currently underway. The aim of this phase is to collect broadly diversified and representative data that allows conclusions to be drawn about the effectiveness and challenges of mobile working in different corporate contexts. Teams from a wide range of industries and company sizes are being analysed.
Our research project invites companies of all sizes and industries to take part in the study. Participation not only offers valuable insights into the effectiveness and challenges of mobile working models, but also gives companies the opportunity to benefit from the research findings. Interested companies can register with their team to take part in the quantitative survey. For further information and to take part, please contact Beatrice Schuldt, whose contact details can be found in our information flyer.
We are also looking for students who are interested in the changes in the world of work and can imagine making their own research contributions in the form of final theses on this topic.
Research into mobile working models is crucial for understanding and designing modern working environments that not only increase productivity but also prioritise the needs of employees. By participating and supporting companies, we are jointly helping to develop innovative solutions for the challenges of tomorrow's working world.
