Lecture & Tutorial Responsible Leadership in the Digital Age

In times of globalization (digital) transformation, this module aims to develop students’ critical understanding of leadership concepts and theory in the digital age. In such a rapidly changing world, people must adapt continuously. This is especially true for leaders in organizational contexts, who not only need to adapt themselves, but also have to drive change in organizations and motivate and support others to adapt. Hence, the nature and style of leadership evolves to deal with the current challenges. Today’s leaders need to understand how to drive transformations and change initiatives in a sustainable manner and effective and responsible leaders need to be equipped with the skills to make decisions faster, to change efficiently, to manage a highly diverse workforce, and to motivate workers in hybrid work environments, while also influencing others and understanding the increasingly interconnected and collaborative organizational and business landscape. In this module, we will investigate the principles of effective and responsible leadership in general and in a globalized, digitalized environment in particular. The module will discuss and explore different topics at the individual, the team, and the organisational level in class. Among other topics, the module will address ethical technology-enabled decision making, leading a hybrid workforce, negotiations and conflict management, and digital transformation execution.

Participants are encouraged to explore the interconnected nature of the various topics to be covered and to develop a holistic and critical understanding of the subject. A variety of different teaching and learning methods will be applied (e.g., presentations, case studies, role plays, reflective exercises) and participants are encouraged to be actively involved in classes.

The module will be taught in English. More information can be found here (lecture) and here (tutorial).
