Honorary doctorate awarded to Prof. Dr. Andreas Pfingsten

On 12 October 2022, the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences awarded Prof. Dr. Andreas Pfingsten, Director of the Institute of Banking at the University of Münster, an honorary doctorate from the University of Rostock.

At the ceremony in the Barocksaal Rostock, his "outstanding achievements in the field of business administration as well as his commitment to the theory-practice dialogue" were honored. According to the certificate, Prof. Pfingsten has succeeded in "dusting off traditional banking management theory, which was characterized by a classificatory approach, and casting a theoretically well-founded and, to a large extent, microeconomic view on banks. This is evidenced not only by the landmark textbook “Bankbetriebslehre” but also by a large number of high-ranking papers in his main research areas of bank lending, bank regulation and accounting, risk management and securitization."

The laudatory speech by Prof. Dr. Dr. h. c. Martin Weber, University of Mannheim, a long-time companion of Prof. Pfingsten, was delivered by Prof. Dr. Peter Lorson due to illness. The honorary doctorate was conferred by the Rector Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Schareck and the Dean Prof. Dr. Martin Benkenstein. Prof. Pfingsten was moved to express his gratitude for the honor: "I am proud to be an honorary doctor of a university rich in tradition and innovation. The business administration here has convincingly focused on services and had financial services on board from the very beginning." His academic lecture "On the future of financial services" rounded off the event for the 50 invited guests, which was accompanied by Beatles music played by students from the Rostock University of Music and Theatre at the request of the honoree.
