On September 7th and 8th 2023, the Rostock Service Conference of the Department of Business Administration of the University of Rostock took place in its 8th edition. Attractive scientific lectures and a joint dinner formed two successful days. Among the approximately 50 participants of the conference, Lars Beckmann and Dr. Johannes Kriebel from the Chair of Banking were given the opportunity to present and discuss current research results.

On the first day of the conference, Dr. Johannes Kriebel presented his research project "The Performance of Unsupervised Learning in Predicitve Maintenance". Predictive maintenance has the potential to deliver large cost savings and quality improvements. Based on his extensive expertise in the field of unsupervised learning, he makes a methodological contribution to the optimal use of these methods.

On the second day, Lars Beckmann presented the results of the research project "The Impact of Central Bank Digital Currency on Financial Services Providers", which was developed together with Prof. Andreas Pfingsten, Dr. Jörn Debener and Paul Hark. In the project, the impact of a possible introduction of a central bank digital currency (CBDC) on listed U.S. banks is examined with the help of an event study. In particular, the results of the study indicate that banks that are heavily dependent on deposits could be particularly negatively affected by the introduction of a CBDC. However, these banks show positive stock market reactions as soon as concrete protective measures are promised by the central bank.

"Exciting feedback on the presentations and intensive discussions of the research results presented have once again made this special conference a successful event.", Prof. Pfingsten comments on his impression.
