Recognition

Competences acquired in other degree programmes can be recognised for our degree programmes upon application, provided that there is no significant difference between the competences acquired and the achievements that are to be replaced. This is checked by the responsible subject representatives as part of the recognition procedure.

Modules or partial module achievements of other universities and study programmes of the WWU are generally recognised without a grade.

Recognition process:

  • Filling out the form

In order to apply for recognition of modules or partial module achievements, please fill out the application for recognition legibly and completely. In the form, you must assign the modules/partial module achievements that you have already completed to the modules for which you would like to have them recognised at the WWU. To do this, please compare the competences taught, the credit points and the examination form of the modules/partial module achievements. You can find a rough overview of the competences taught in the modules of our degree programmes in our module descriptions. A non-binding overview of already recognised modules/partial module achievements from other universities can be found in our recognition table. We strongly recommend that you contact our student advisory service to complete the application.  The completed form must be signed by your own hand.

    Recognition Table (update: 10.06.2021)

The recognition table is not legally binding. Decisions may differ due to changes in the respective degree programme.

  • Add attachments

Please attach the following documents to the form:

    • Current certificate of enrolment
    • Transcript of Records - authenticity must be verifiable, i.e. either the original with seal and/or signature or an electronically verifiable Transcript of Records.
    • Descriptions of the modules/partial module achievements in German or English (official module handbook, lecture slides, literature used, etc.). Summaries or course descriptions prepared by the applicant himself/herself cannot be used for the examination of the acquisition of competences. The descriptions must be clearly assigned to the respective modules by the applicant in order to enable rapid processing. Missing or incorrect assignments are the responsibility of the applicant. If module descriptions, scripts, etc. are not available in German or English, they must be officially translated and the translation must be proven.

Please ensure that the submitted documents are sufficiently informative. Missing or incomplete descriptions of the course content are at the applicant's expense.

  • Formal check of the documents in the examination office

The submitted documents are checked for completeness in the examination office. If necessary, additional documents will be requested. Please check your university e-mail box regularly.
  • Content audit by the subject representatives

Complete forms are forwarded to the respective subject representatives for review of the content. They decide on the possibility of recognition on the basis of the documents submitted. The recognition of achievements will be refused if there are substantial differences between the achievement performed externally and the achievement to be replaced. Substantial differences exist if the lack of competences would unreasonably complicate the further course of studies.
  • Decision on recognition

There are two possible decisions on the application for recognition:

    1. There are no significant differences between the modules applied for: The modules/partial module achievements are booked in the system for the credit points to be achieved (depending on the regulation in the examinations regulations.  Notification of recognition will be sent by e-mail to your university e-mail address.
If you have already registered for courses to be replaced but have not yet passed, the registrations will be invalidated and the recognised course will be booked.Important: The date of the recognised examination or course achievement is the date of receipt of the form for recognition.
    2. Refusal of recognition:
    • Reasons:
      •     Existence of substantial differences
      •     Performance to be recognised has already been passed
      •     The structure of the degree programme is not adhered to by the recognition.
    • You will receive a notification of the refusal of recognition with the corresponding reasons. The decision is accompanied by instructions on how to appeal and will be sent to your university e-mail address.

Please check your university email account regularly. All correspondence from the Examinations Office will be handled via the university email account. The entire recognition process can take up to 4 weeks (from receipt of the complete documents).
