Travelling to Münster (Westf.)

Please note that there exist several cities called “Münster“ or “Munster“ in Germany. Please make sure that you choose “Münster (Westf.)” (= Münster in Westphalia) as destination when you plan your journey.

By airplane:

There are four airports in the region of Münster (Westf.). The largest ones are Cologne/Bonn Airport (CGN) (160 km out) and Düsseldorf Airport (DUS) (120 km out) with many international connections. The smaller ones are Dortmund Airport (DTM) (60 km out) and Münster/Osnabrück Airport (FMO) (25 km out).

Landing in Cologne/Bonn (CGN), you can easily take the urban train to Cologne Central Station and change to the connecting regional train (RE 7) or to an InterCity to Münster (Westf.) Central Station.

From Düsseldorf Airport (DUS), you can take a direct regional train (RE 2) or an InterCity to Münster (Westf.) Central Station.

Arriving in Dortmund (DTM) you can take the airport shuttle bus to the closest train station named “Holzwickede – Dortmund Flughafen” where the regional train (RE 7) to Münster (Westf.) Central Station departs.

From Münster Airport (FMO), there is a direct bus shuttle (S50 or R51) to Münster (Westf.) Central Station.

By train:

You can reach Münster (Westf.) Central Station by express trains (IC (InterCity) or ICE) as well as by regional transport. Münster is part of the north-west-south connection from Hamburg to Munich via Düsseldorf, Cologne and Frankfurt.  The east-west connection from Berlin to Münster is via Hannover, Dortmund and Hamm. For train tickets visit: https://www.bahn.de/

Münster (Westf.) Central Station is located at the eastern bound of the city center and is easily reachable by bus or foot. All bus lines depart directly in front of the central station. Tickets are sold on the bus by the driver.

By car:

Coming from the north, you take the highway A1, exit at “Münster Nord” direction Münster, and follow the traffic signs “Münster”.  Coming from the south, you take the highway A1 or A43 until the exit “Münster Süd” direction Münster and follow the traffic signs “Münster”.

Getting to the conference venues:

For the destination CIW (Center of Interdisciplinary Economics), take the bus line 2 (destination Alte Sternwarte) or bus line 10 (destination Meckmannweg) from the central station and get off at the bus station Platz der Weissen Rose. You can also walk from the city center (app. 20-30 minutes) or take a taxi (app. 10 minutes drive). Please note that there is no UBER in Germany.
