    For many years now, the chair of Prof. Hellingrath and Prof. Fernando Buarque de Lima Neto has been jointly working together. Besides two joint research projects on the application of Computational Intelligence methods in Supply Chain Management, Prof. Buarque has been visiting Münster several times during the years 2015 and 2017 as part of his scholarship of the Alexander-von-Humboldt Foundation. During this time further research collaborations with the chair of Prof. Vossen und Prof. Kuchen at the Department of Information Systems have been established. These intensive collaborations are to be continued during his term as visiting professor at the University of Münster.

    Prof. Fernando Buarque de Lima Neto obtained his doctorate in the field of Artificial Intelligence at the Imperial College London in the year 2002. Since 2003, he is head of the research group “Computational Intelligence” at the University Pernambuco in Brazil. His research activities are centered in the areas of (1) Swarm Intelligence, Evolutionary, Social and Hybrid Metaheuristics; (2) Modelling and Simulation of Stochastic Problems; and (3) Intelligent Decision Support Systems (including Computational Semiotics).

    During the term as visiting professor at the University of Münster, Prof. Buarque envision close research collaborations with the Department of Information Systems. Further activities during the next three years, include among others mentoring of several PhD students, participation at the structural doctoral program and realization of specialization modules/ seminars.
