Institute for Information, Telecommunications and Media Law

The Institute for Information, Telecommunications and Media Law has been established in Münster since 1997 and addresses key legal questions of the digital economy, particularly information law, telecommunications law, media law and legal informatics. Its areas of focus include copyright law, IT contract law, e-commerce, data protection law under the GDPR, liability issues on the internet as well as LegalTech, blockchain and the possibilities and limits of artificial intelligence in law. The institute is located on the Leonardo Campus and has an interdisciplinary network in computer science, economics and other disciplines as well as extensive academic experience, including more than 150 doctoral projects in the institute’s environment.


REACH Euregio Startup-Center

REACH is the university-wide start-up center of the University of Münster and supports prospective founders from the University of Münster and FH Münster, from knowledge- and technology-based ideas through to company formation. It works in a university network with FH Münster, the University of Twente, including the Novel-T start-up center, and Digital Hub münsterLAND. REACH provides coaching, workshops, infrastructure, resources and a network to systematically develop start-ups and spin-offs. As part of the state initiative “Exzellenz Start-up Center.NRW”, structures have been established to promote science-based start-up and transfer activities at the University of Münster and within the innovation ecosystem.


Research Group Machine Learning and Data Engineering (MLDE)

The Machine Learning and Data Engineering (MLDE) research group focuses on the development of efficient and scalable implementations of modern machine learning methods. Its research addresses key challenges such as reducing computational effort during the inference phase of current deep learning models and accelerating the training of large AI models through distributed computing.


Fraunhofer Research Institution for Battery Cell Production

The Fraunhofer Research Institution for Battery Cell Production is based in Münster and serves as a link between science, research, and industry for efficient, sustainable, and scalable battery cell production. Its aim is to build a research infrastructure that accelerates the innovation and commercialization process of production technologies for existing and future cell formats. Key areas of focus include battery technology, process optimization, quality assurance, digitalization, AI in battery production, recycling, and continuing education. With the “FFB PreFab,” the institution operates an open battery cell factory for research and development purposes.
