Bachelor in Economics and Law

Your studies include the three areas of economics, law and in addition, a Studium Fundamentale, which accompanies you throughout your studies. You will study at the Department of Economics as well as at the Department of Law. In economics, you first complete the basic courses in microeconomics and macroeconomics and economic legal analysis. Basic courses in business administration are also part of the curriculum. Afterwards, you can choose between many different courses in economics and set your own focus, from poverty reduction to environmental and resource economics, or innovation economics to monetary and fiscal policy.

In Law, you will first study the modules Fundamentals of Public Law, Fundamentals of Private Law and a basic module on Administrative Law. Afterwards, you will either attend all lectures of a specialization or alternatively, basic lectures from different specializations. The specializations are very diverse and range from economics and business, tax law, labor and social affairs and information, communication and media law to international law.

The Studium Fundamentale runs through the entire bachelor's program. It includes courses on the fundamentals of academic work, statistics and empirical methods, three language courses and also a mandatory internship of eight weeks. The interdisciplinary approach of the program is mainly promoted by the so-called integration module, in which two professors, one from economics and one from law, work on and discuss a topic with a seminar group and an interdisciplinary approach.

If, after completing your bachelor's degree in "Business and Law", you would like to continue studying law with the 1st state examination, it is possible to change to the 5th semester at the WWU without any problems. Corresponding study places are reserved by the student secretariat for graduates of the "Business and Law" program.

In Political Science you will attend the four typical basic lectures (Political System of the FRG, International Relations, Comparative Political Science and Political Theory). Building on this, you will then take standard and reading courses, which give you the opportunity to deal with a special topic in a smaller setting and to discuss it with other students. Building on this, in-depth bachelor's seminars are offered in which students conduct their own research projects.

The Studium Fundamentale runs through the entire bachelor's program. It includes courses on the basics of academic work, statistics and empirical methods , three language courses and also a compulsory internship of eight weeks. After completing your studies, you have many opportunities to deepen your professional knowledge, and classic master's programs such as economics or political science are open to you. Other interdisciplinary master's programs in Germany and abroad are also possible. At WWU, for example, graduates of the program "Politics and Economics" are eligible for a master's degree in human geography, in addition to the master's degree in economics and the master's degree in political science.
