Understanding Employee Support for Organizational Change

How employees perceive organizational change is rarely static. As change unfolds, employees continuously reassess whether it benefits their work, and these changing perceptions shape how they engage with the process.

🔬 In their new publication, "Shift Happens During Change: Appraisal Shifts and Employee Proactive Support for Organizational Change," Rouven Kanitz, Leander De Schutter, Julia Backmann, Tina Kiefer, Mel Fugate and Martin Hoegl examine how employees' changing appraisals influence their willingness to proactively support organizational change. Rather than treating employee reactions as fixed, the study shows that shifts in perceived benefits over time matter, and that these shifts help explain proactive support through positive emotions.

💡 The findings highlight the importance of understanding employee support as a dynamic process rather than a fixed response to change, offering valuable insights for both organizational change research and practitioners leading transformation initiatives.
