Abstract

Are Elected Team Leaders Better Than Their Teams?
Analysis at the Example of Management Professors and Their Citations

The example of German-speaking management professors is used to analyse whether team leaders, concretely deans, vice-deans and chairmen of academic sections of the German Academic Association for Business Research (VHB), are more successful in their operative work, here research measured by publications and citations in Google Scholar, than other team members, in this case professors without such leadership positions. Empirically this is the case, which is evidence against other explanations for no correlation or even a negative relationship between effective team leadership and normal work.
