Abstract 

The Relevance of Competition in Academia

Competition is important. This holds for many sectors of society like economy, politics and sports but also science and academia. Competition has positive effects on the performance and selection of its participants according to the prevailing criteria of the competition. Thus it is essential that these criteria are adequate for science and academia, especially since the alternatives to competition have great disadvantages.
