Competition in the Academic Career Path

Competition plays a role in the different phases of an academic career. It starts in kindergarten and does not stop after retirement, but is highest when one tries to get the first tenured professorship. In addition to the intensity of the competition, the competition criteria and the desired goals also change over the course of a career and in the long term even for the entire university system.
