The School of Business and Economics offers a variety of postgraduate courses in order to meet the growing need for high-quality executive education programmes which prepare professional people specifically for managerial responsibilities in a global market environment. Each course leads to the award of an officially recognised academic title and may serve as a springboard for a doctorate.
The courses on offer are intended mainly for executives and up-and-coming young professionals who work in the banking, commercial and industrial sectors, and who are anxious to prepare for the challenges posed by organisations operating in an international marketplace.

Centre for Corporate Accounting: Accounting and Management Accounting Program
This course, which extends over three semesters, provides managerial expertise and practical knowledge about accountancy and management accounting. Newly acquired knowledge is deepened with the aid of examples. The participants learn how to make use of broad general skills and knowledge in order to run businesses successfully with the aid of accounting systems and accounting instruments. Centre for Corporate Accounting: Executive MBA Business Management
The Executive MBA Business Management course, which extends over three semesters, is intended primarily for the benefit of day release students with little or no previous knowledge of business management. Participants are equipped with broad general skills and knowledge germane to business studies. The overall approach adopted by the course leaders is both lively and sophisticated. Facts and ideas are presented in compact modules. Face-to-face classroom teaching is used to probe into topics relevant to the day-to-day practicalities of the business world. Theoretical discussions are supplemented by case study analyses. Students are taught in small groups. Graduates of the course are awarded the title ‘Executive MBA Business Management’. Master’s Degree Course in Accounting and Auditing
This continuing education course is intended for graduates of a BA course who hope to find employment as auditors, and who would like to combine their studies with periods of practical work. The course, which is part of the AuditXcellence programme, is conducted conjointly with the University of Bochum and has been accredited in accordance with § 8a of the Auditor Regulation Act (Wirtschaftsprüferordnung). As a result, marks awarded for examinations taken during the course count towards the final result of the auditing examination. Those who have successfully completed the master’s degree course in accounting and auditing are awarded a double Master of Science degree by the University of Bochum and the University of Münster. Master’s Degree Course in Energy Economics
The MA course in energy economics, which is intended primarily for engineers, scientists, management experts, economists and lawyers, is conducted conjointly with RWTH Aachen University, companies and associations in the energy sector, and the Haus der Technik in Essen (HdT). The purpose of the programme is to prepare executives and skilled personnel for the energy market of the future. Students are provided with skills and knowledge which will enable them to take over executive posts in domains of activity directly or indirectly connected with the production, distribution and utilisation of energy. The course content – a mixture of technology, economics and law – is well adapted to the practicalities of business life. Those who have successfully completed the course are awarded a double Master of Science degree by RWTH Aachen University and the University of Münster.
