  • Exchange students enrolled in another faculty of the University of Münster

For exchange students who have been accepted to study at the University of Münster but who are going to be enrolled in a faculty other than SBE (non-subject students):

Due to our already extensive partnership programs and general capacity constraints, students registered at SBE will need to be prioritized in all registration processes. For exchange students who are enrolled in another faculty, therefore, it will only be possible to attend courses at SBE in some rare circumstances, unfortunately. As students not being enrolled at SBE will not be registered for courses in the usual way (the examination office does not include those students in the digital systems), each Chair will need to organize the participation in the course and examination entirely on its own, which, again unfortunately, causes administrative expense and may only be justified if participation is reasonable based on the following outlined aspects.

Selection criteria for non-subject students, registered at another faculty:

    1. Enrollment in a degree program at your home institution that includes business, economics, or information systems content.
    2. Acceptance by the coordinator from the home university to follow courses from another faculty.
    3. Acceptance by the coordinator of the other faculty at the University of Münster.
    4. Consideration and acceptance of the following aspects:
      • Mandatory prior application
An application ahead of the semester start is mandatory, and the Chair ultimately decides if participation is reasonable.
      • One set of rules for everybody
There is one set of rules for all students, regardless of the status as a regular or an exchange student. This means that there are no individual agreements between students and the Chair concerning assessment methods (written test, oral exam, seminar paper), the grading itself, or re-sit options.
      • Prerequisites
Please take a close look at the provided course descriptions and especially module prerequisites in order to check, whether you meet the requirements to follow the course. The study level is considered high, and teaching is based on good prior knowledge from the preceding semesters.
      • What else is expected from you:
        • Attendance
Although course attendance is not mandatory in many courses, it is strongly recommended and crucial for passing the course. Our School does not grant ECTS credits for attendance only and does not provide certificates of attendance .
        • Self-studying
Typically a substantial amount of self-studying will be expected. Credits are awarded based on the assignments and requirements specified in the course description, in most case a written examination at the end carries a significant weight.
        • Understanding the German university system
Please check the following link for information about the German university system !

Process of application at IRC for approval by the SBE lecturer:

    3. Motivational letter (optional)
maximum 500 words, explaining the personal reasons to attend the course (focus on academic reasons)

Soon after checking the application, the lecturer will decide if participation is reasonable (approx. 2 weeks). Missing parts in the application are at the expense of the applicant.

    We wish you success!

Please consult your home coordinator first if a prolongment and thus nomination for another semester would be possible.

In the case that there is no nomination from the home university, there still is the opportunity to apply for an additional semester:

    ·  Curriculum Vitae (1 page max)

    ·  Motivational Letter & Study Plan (1 page max)
We are interested in knowing your personal reasons for prolonging your studies at the School of Business and Economics and the University of Münster.

Base your motivation primarily on the aspired classes you plan to take (your study plan). Please limit the motivational letter to one page.

    ·  Transcript of Records:
Verified Scan by your university, including a grading scale

The deadlines are based on the usual application deadlines ( DEC 01 for a summer semester; JUN 01 for a winter semester).

In both cases, a case-by-case decision must be taken and the possibility of an extension depends on current capacities, past exchange quotas and academic purposes.

    Young and Vibrant City

Three things immediately strike those who visit Münster for the first time: its beautiful old town, the large number of bikes and the many young people. More than 60,000 students shape the historic and simultaneously modern university town with its 310,000 inhabitants. Students will find bars, pubs, foods & clubs scattered around.

Your Base to Start Exploring Europe

Münster is situated right in the 'heart of Europe'!
As students will receive a train ticket that allows travel in second class around the whole state of Northrhine-Westphalia, students will enjoy free and super fast traveling to Cologne, Aachen, the Ruhr-area as well as Düsseldorf International Airport, from where every place in Europe is just a heartbeat away!

    Experience History and Culture

Münster was founded in 805 and came to fame when the 30-Years’ War came to an end in Münster with the Peace of Westphalia of 1648. The town centre with its arcades, churches, gabled houses, narrow alleyways, lively places, traditional pubs and modern cafes is popular with both tourists and Münsterers alike.
Other outstanding qualities of Münster are its ample green areas, with the city’s alameda and a green belt around the old town, and its being embedded into the charming parkland of the Münsterland.
The cultural scene and the museum scene in Münster are multifaceted and well-known beyond the region as they comprise both Münster’s traditional history (Peace Hall, Mühlenhof Open-Air Museum) and the modern arts (graphic art museum Pablo Picasso, sculpture exhibition, Städtische Bühne).

    Most liveable city of 2004

Why did the LivCom judging panel name Münster as the world’s most liveable city of 2004? Because the town convinced them in the five required categories:

    1. Enhancement of the Natural and Built Landscape

    2. Arts, Culture and Heritage

    3. Environmental Best Practices

    4. Community Participation and Empowerment

    5. Strategic Planning

Münster received the highest possible rating in all of the categories and, in addition, also scored with its focus on a sustainable and integrated urban development.

The City is Our Campus: University of Münster (WWU)

WWU was founded in 1780 and is the fifth largest university in Germany today. The university is known for the high quality of its education in its approx. 250 courses of study, ranging from applied linguistics to sports. WWU enjoys a respectable position on the international academic scene and constantly strives to improve it. International visibility and reputation are important prerequisites both for an involvement in European and global research programmes and, increasingly, for recruiting excellent researchers from all over the world.

Some 550 official partnership and cooperation agreements connects Münster University with universities and academic institutions worldwide. In addition to the approx. 700 visiting scholars who research and teach, Münster University has more than 3,500 international students. As with visiting scholars, international students are also supported by the university’s International Office.

ORGANIZATIONAL ISSUES: VISA - IMMATRICULATION - ACCOMODATION

  • ... more information

    Visa

Students from the ERASMUS+ program usually do not require a visa (except: Turkey e.g.). There is a visa requirement for students from all other countries, which means that it is recommended to apply for a study visa in good time. A letter of admission is required to do so, which is issued and sent to your home university by WWU’s International Office. Please contact the German embassy of your home country to apply for the visa. Click here for an overview of the diplomatic representations of Germany.
You need to register at the Citizens Office of the town of Münster and, as the case may be, also at the Foreigners’ Registration Office.

    Enrolment/ Matriculation

The letter of admission also states the date of your matriculation, that is, your enrollment. You will also find in it a list of the documents that you need to bring to this appointment. With the enrollment, you become a member of the student body of Münster University and will receive your student card and the semester ticket. Please contact the Registrar´s Office should you have any questions about matriculating or re-matriculating (if you stay longer than one semester). Münster University does not charge any study fees, but a semester fee (amounting to approx. 230 euros) must be paid to cover both administrative costs and your semester ticket.
Please make sure to also read the International Office’s information on applying and enrolling at WWU Münster.

    Semester Contribution Fee

    Accommodation

As soon as you receive the admission to your semester abroad from the International Office, the question of lodging should also be attended to. The “Student Support Services” offers numerous possibilities if you wish to live together with many students in a hall of residence. Places are limited, however, so that an early application is recommended. As an alternative, the “Internationale Studentenwohnheime e.V.” also offers accommodations. One may also move into one of the many flats shared by other students. Further information on the issue of accommodation and the respective links to different portals can be found at the pages of the International Office.

    Practical experience and finances

An internship or student’s job might be of interest to you in order to put your theoretical knowledge directly into practice. The Career Development Center will be happy to help when applying for jobs. Please also take a look at the extensive semester programme, which offers insights into diverse key qualifications.
A scholarship might also be a possibility in getting financial support for a stay at our university. The German Academic Exchange Service DAAD is a good organisation for international students to contact. The International Office and "Die Brücke”, an international centre, will both be happy to provide information on scholarships and other ways of funding.
