FAQ

Are you planning to study at the SBE as an exchange? Here are some of the most frequently asked questions to help you prepare for your stay:

1. When should I arrive in Münster?
We recommend arriving at least one to two weeks before the semester starts to get settled, complete formalities, and take part in our mandatory Welcome Event.

2. How do I choose my courses?
Before your stay, you can browse the course catalogue online to get an idea of the available classes. Once you have been accepted by the SBE, you will receive an overview of the dates for your individual course counselling. Please wait until you have discussed your course choice before drawing up your learning agreement. You can change your choice of course at any time after your arrival in Münster in consultation with Sina Heidtke.

3. How many ECTS credits should I take?
Most exchange students take between 20 and 30 ECTS credits per semester. Please check with your home university to meet their credit transfer requirements.

4. Are courses taught in English?
Yes, the School of Business and Economics offers a wide range of English-taught courses, especially at the master's level. A course list with English-language options is updated each semester.

5. Will I receive a transcript of records?
Yes. After completing your courses and exams, you will receive an official transcript of records. You have to downlaod it by yourself via Flexnow.

6. Do I need to attend every class?
Regular attendance is highly recommended and sometimes mandatory, especially in seminars or project-based courses. Participation often influences your final grade.

7. Are lecture materials available online?
Yes, most courses use the university’s online platform Learnweb, where lecture slides, readings, and announcements are posted. Access is given once you are officially enrolled.

8. Can I extend my stay for another semester?
Possibly! Extensions depend on approval from your home university, course availability, and visa/residence status. If you're considering this, contact the International Office early.

9. Are courses available only during the semester?
Most courses run during the semester (October–February or April–July). However, some intensive language courses or block seminars may take place before or after.
