Prof. Dr. Stefanie Kleimeier is an internationally recognized scholar in the fields of finance and banking, with more than three decades of experience in research, teaching, and academic administration. She is Professor of Finance at Maastricht University, Professor of Entrepreneurial Finance and Banking at the Open Universiteit (the Netherlands), and Extraordinary Professor at the University of Stellenbosch Business School (South Africa). Since 2021, she has also supported the University of Münster as a Visiting International Professor.

Her research focuses on retail banking, syndicated lending, project finance, banking integration, and sustainable finance. More recently, her work has expanded to include financial well-being, household financial vulnerability, and environmental sustainability in the financial sector. Her research has been published in numerous leading international academic journals, including the Journal of Banking and Finance, Journal of Financial Intermediation, Journal of Financial Stability, Economic Policy, World Development, Financial Management, and the Journal of International Money and Finance.

Prof. Kleimeier has extensive international teaching and research experience and has held academic positions and collaborations at universities across Europe, Africa, Asia, and North America. In addition, she serves on the editorial and advisory boards of several academic journals and has acted as a consultant to European institutions and policy-oriented organizations.
