Director of Sustainability at the School of Business & Economics
To strengthen and visibly embed sustainability within the School of Business & Economics, we established the position of Director of Sustainability in 2021. We are pleased that this role is currently held by Prof. Markus Dertwinkel-Kalt, Professor of Economics with a focus on Behavioral and Digital Economics. Among other topics, he teaches seminars on climate economics and conducts research on sustainability-related issues such as transformation labels in climate finance.
As Director of Sustainability, Prof. Dertwinkel-Kalt supports the systematic evaluation and development of sustainability-related initiatives and activities in line with the values and strategy of both the School and the University.
Responsibilities of the Director of Sustainability
- Regular consultation with all faculty members responsible for sustainability and specifically for PRME (e.g., the Vice Dean for Teaching and Student Affairs, the Vice Dean for Research and Knowledge Transfer, and the Head of International Accreditations).
- Acting as the faculty’s representative in university-wide sustainability activities.
- Contributing to the university’s strategic planning process to ensure that sustainability topics are integrated into the institution’s strategic priorities.
As an economics faculty, it is our responsibility to implement sustainability in a meaningful way. This means not creating additional burdens but integrating sustainability thoughtfully into existing processes.
