Theses
At the Chair of Political Economy, bachelor's and master's theses are supervised for the degree programs Politics and Economics, Economics and Law, Economics (Ökonomik), Master of Education, Public Policy, and Economics (Volkswirtschaftslehre). A prerequisite for the supervision of a thesis is, in addition to proof of the necessary credit points, timely registration. Furthermore, students should have successfully completed at least one course at the LPOE during their studies.
Please inform yourself independently about the registration of your thesis at the Examination Office for Economics (Prüfungsamt Wirtschaftswissenschaften). Information on applying for the "Leitkarte" (guidance card), on the processing period, and more can be found at the following link.
A guideline for registering bachelor's theses in the degree programs Economics & Law, Politics & Economics, Economics (Ökonomik), Economics/Politics, and Politics & Law can also be found here.

If you are interested in writing your bachelor's thesis on a topic within the specified areas, please proceed as follows:
1. Check whether you meet the requirements for registering for the bachelor's thesis (in particular the necessary number of ECTS) and have the Examination Office hand over your Leitkarte to you. Inform yourself about the subject areas and make a (preliminary) decision.
2. Write an email to Marcel Kossack (marcel.kossack@wiwi.uni-muenster.de), in which you state your preferred topic area and the intended processing period. Please also attach a current excerpt of your transcript to the email.
3. Depending on the subject area and supervision capacities, we will inform you which member of the chair will take over the supervision of your thesis. Arrange a first meeting with your supervisor in which you discuss your topic preferences. Please develop one or two concrete ideas for your topic in advance.
4. You will receive a selection of topics from the area you have chosen and will then have a maximum of one week to make your choice. We endeavor to take your preferences into account, but cannot guarantee this.
5. Arrange another appointment with your supervisor a maximum of one week after the topic assignment in order to finalize the topic. For this, please be sure to bring your Leitkarte as well as an up-to-date excerpt of your transcript, from which the already recorded achievements are evident! The topic you have decided on will be entered into the Leitkarte, and the processing time for your bachelor's thesis begins.
6. When working on your topic, please observe the formal requirements of the LÖP for writing an academic paper.

If you are interested in writing your project study and your master's thesis on a topic within the specified areas, please proceed as follows:
1. Inform yourself about the subject areas and, on this basis, develop as concrete an idea as possible for a problem you would like to investigate.
2. Write an email to Marcel Kossack (marcel.kossack@wiwi.uni-muenster.de), in which you state your preferred topic area and the intended processing period. Depending on the subject area and supervision capacities, we will inform you which member of the chair will take over the supervision of your thesis. Please also note the registration and topic assignment periods for master's theses on the pages of the Examination Office.
3. Then arrange a meeting with your supervisor. In this meeting, the further organizational and content-related procedure will be clarified. We will support you in the independent development of a suitable research question for the project study and master's thesis.
4. First, the project study (including participation in the colloquium) is completed. Afterwards, you can begin working on your master's thesis based on this. (Note: It is also possible to complete the project study and master's thesis on thematically different topics and at different chairs. However, we expressly recommend a thematic connection!)
5. When working on your topic, please observe the formal requirements of the LÖP for writing an academic paper.
