Seminar: DAAD-Project with COMSATS Institute of Information Technology in Pakistan (Master)

Content Funded by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), the IVM currently has a research co-operation with the COMSATS Institute of Information Technology in Pakistan. The project aims to exchange knowledge on the organisation and regulation of different transport modes/systems in each country. The project also includes assignments of students of special aspects of the considered transport sector in their home country. The research topic for 2016 is "Rail Transport".

Possible research topics for assignments in 2016:

-       Regulation of the market access for regional passenger rail transport 
-       Justification of subsidies in regional passenger rail transport 
-       Characteristics, regulation and market entry barriers of the German long distance train market
-       Characteristics, regulation and market entry barriers of the German rail freight market
-       Ticket booking system of the DB and the theory of two-sided markets
-       Potentials for discrimination in the train path pricing system of the DB AG
-       European freight streams and the need for an efficient TEN-T Rhine-Alpine Corridor

 

The assignment should be about 10 pages in length and preparation can be startet in the middle of February and should be completed by the 4th of July (2 pm). In July the IVM will host researchers/students from the Pakistani University and students from each country will present and discuss their results. The assignments and the presentations for the project can be credited as a seminar in the Master Studies. Assignments and presentations have to be prepared in english.
Exam
Assignment of 10 pages length and presentation and discussion of the results. The mark consists to 80% of the assignment and to 20% of the presentation/discussion.

Registration To participate in the seminar you have to register at the IVM. Topics are released according to the first come, first served principle. For registration you have to submit your name, matricle number and your prefered topic via E-mail to Kathrin Goldmann. The maximum number of participants is limited to 7.

Additionally, you have to register the seminar at the Prüfungsamt ("Seminar Volkswirtschaftslehre/Volkswirtschaftspolitik"). Please mind that the seminar registration deadline equals the deadline for the midterm exams.
